'Nothing like almost shooting someone to set your head right lol': Sheriff's deputy is sacked after tasteless Snapchat post
- Pinellas County Sheriff's deputy Austen Callus posted a picture on Snapchat
- The 23-year-old officer wrote a caption with the photo: 'Nothing like almost shooting someone to set your head right lol. God I gate (sic) people with knives'
- Post was then found by people other than who he sent it to and shared online
- Sheriff's office said in a statement Callus has been been fired from the force
- It had earlier been announced he was on leave, pending an investigation
A Florida deputy has been fired after a social media post in which he boasted about almost shooting someone in order to 'get his head right' emerged.
Pinellas County Sheriff's deputy Austen Callus was caught out making the remark in a Snapchat post that has since been shared across social media.
The 23-year-old took a picture of himself while in the backseat of a car, then shared it along with the caption: 'Nothing like almost shooting someone to set your head right lol. God I gate (sic) people with knives.'
The officer's name is also seen in the top corner of the image.

He had initially been placed on leave, but the sheriff's office announced he had been let go about 1:30pm on Thursday.
The 23-year-old has been with the force since November 2016. He works as a patrol deputy
'On Tuesday June 27, 2017, the Administrative Investigation Division received a complaint regarding several inappropriate posts involving Callus on the Snapchat application,' a statement read.
'Investigators immediately confronted Callus about the post and he admitted to placing the photograph.
'As a result of Callus’ inappropriate comments and out of concern for the safety of others, he was placed on administrative leave on Wednesday, June 28, 2017.
'Callus’ guns and credentials were collected from him. Effective Thursday, June 29, 2017, Callus’ employment was terminated.'
Another Floridian, furious with the officer's caption, posted the picture on Facebook.
'This is the kind of cop Pinellas county sheriff's office hires? Someone who wants to shoot someone just to get his head right?' Joseph Wood wrote on Monday night.
The photo has been shared about 300 times since.
It is unclear what apparent near shooting Callus was referring to in his post.
The 23-year-old has been with the force since November 2016. He works as a patrol deputy.
