This is the hilarious moment a toddler didn't recognise her own father when she saw him clean shaven for the very first time.

Arya Zeller is in for a big surprise as she bounds towards her father, Joe, who has half of his face covered by a blanket at the family home in Dover Plains, New York.

Known for his ever-present facial hair, the three-year-old was left shell-shocked when she pulled back the covers to find her father's beard had disappeared.

Staring back at the familiar looking 'stranger', Arya looked down to see if her father's beard had fallen off.

But the toddler soon determined that the man could not be her beloved bearded dad and ran out of the room crying 'no, no, no'.

Arya's mother Krystin Zeller, said: 'It was so incredibly funny to watch.

'After I stopped filming, Arya said "that is not my dad" and wouldn't believe me when I told her it was.

'This went on for over two hours, she was insistent that Joe was a stranger. Joe's had a beard for the entirety of Arya's life.

'Eventually I was able to take her by the hand, where I had to re-introduce her to her dad.

'When she finally figured it out, she made him promise to never shave it off again.

'Even now if you ask her if she wants him to shave, she'll scream 'no' several times and freak out.

'Joe felt really guilty and he can't wait to grow it back fully for her.'
