Wolfowitz aide quits on eve of judgment

A close aide to World Bank president Paul Wolfowitz has resigned, claiming it has become impossible to continue in his job.
Kevin Kellems, who served as an adviser to Mr Wolfowitz when he was US deputy defence secretary, said he was leaving to pursue other opportunities.
Mr Kellems's departure is a blow for Mr Wolfowitz, who has been accused of abusing his power after he sought a promotion and a hefty pay rise for his girlfriend Shaha Riza, a Middle East expert at the bank.
Mr Kellems said: "Given the current environment surrounding the leadership of the World Bank Group, it is very difficult to be effective in helping to advance the mission of the institution.
"I have tremendous respect and admiration for the bank staff and management and treasure the many friendships."
A bank panel appointed to look into Mr Wolfowitz's actions is expected to deliver its report on Wednesday.
According to sources, several directors at the World Bank believe it has become "virtually impossible" for Mr Wolfowitz to stay on as president.
They claim his actions have damaged the bank's credibility and rendered it ineffective.
