Colleagues of the Royal Marine who died after a road accident in Afghanistan today paid tribute to him and said he was "selfless to the end".
The Ministry of Defence named the latest casualty from the conflict as 23-year-old Scott Summers, from 42 Commando, who was fatally injured in the accident on February 4.
It was revealed today that the accident in Helmand province happened after the 23-year-old had volunteered for the re-supply run for his company.
This final act was typical of the young Marine from Crawley, East Sussex, who would always put himself forward for the smallest job, according to his commanding officer.
Lieutenant Colonel Matt Holmes said: "The loss of such a fine young man as Scott Summers is felt across the whole Commando, and shows the high regard in which he was held.
"It was typical of the man that he had volunteered for the task when the accident occurred."
