A schoolboy has died one week after he was found at the bottom of cliffs at a popular tourist spot.

Miller Coyle is believed to have fallen from  Lavernock Point, near Penarth in Wales, on February 26.

His school and police have now confirmed the 15-year-old succumbed to his injuries and tragically passed away in hospital on Sunday.

Miller was a Year 10 pupil at Stanwell School in Penarth.

An email sent by the school to parents and carers said: 'It is with immense sorrow that we learned of the tragic death of one of our students, Miller Coyle of Year 10.

'Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with his family at this sad time.'

The school said all its pupils had been informed and offered support and counselling in the wake of the tragedy.

The RNLI in Penarth, HM Coastguard, South Wales Police and the Wales Ambulance Service had all been called to the incident.

A police spokeswoman said: 'South Wales Police can confirm that a 15-year-old boy who is believed to have fallen from a cliff at Lavernock Point, Sully, has died from his injuries.

'The boy, who sustained life-threatening injuries during the incident on Sunday, February 26, passed away at the University Hospital of Wales on Sunday evening, March 5.

'His next of kin have been informed and a file is being prepared for HM Coroner.'
