She isn't royalty yet. But if the hefty police escort guarding her yesterday is anything to go by, Kate Middleton may soon be joining the Windsor family.
As the 24-year-old left for work, dressed in a check skirt and black woollen jacket, she passed two officers standing outside the door of her Chelsea home.

Another two patrolled the street. And a further pair then followed her in a patrol car to the office in Kew, West London, where she works as a buyer for high street fashion chain Jigsaw.
It was a much smoother start to the day than on Wednesday, when she emerged to find a parking inspector writing her a £100 fine. As an ordinary member of the public, Miss Middleton is not entitled to formal police protection. That only happens if she gets engaged to her boyfriend of four years, Prince William.
Friends say, however, that the pair have become increasingly concerned by the horde of photographers outside her home.
A source close to Miss Middleton said: "She understands that there will be a certain amount of interest in what she does.
"But she and William have seriously discussed their concerns about her personal safety."
