Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's Liberal party is continuing to slip in the polls
One Nation's ascent comes at a turbulent time for the Coalition with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's Liberal party continuing to slip in the polls.
Labor holds a 55-45 per cent advantage over the Coalition, after preferences in the latest Newspoll, as Mr Turnbull suffers another blow to his personal standing.
Disaffected voters have pushed Pauline Hanson's One Nation to 10 per cent of the primary vote, more than doubling the minor party's national support since November.
Senior cabinet minister Mathias Cormann has blamed the Coalition's decline on too much internal government bickering.
'It's not a surprise after the internal conversation we've had through the media in recent days,' he told ABC radio on Monday.
'People mark us down for that.'
Meanwhile Mr Christensen, who has threatened to quit the Coalition over a local sugar dispute, could be in trouble in his own seat after a ReachTEL poll put One Nation and the LNP on even ground.
One Nation declined to run a candidate in his Mackay-centred electorate last year, citing Mr Christensen's call to restrict Muslim migration which Senator Hanson's party also campaigned on.
Senator Hanson's party and Mr Christensen now have 30 per cent and 30.4 per cent respectively of first-preference votes in the regional north Queensland seat, which Labor has only held once since 1975.
