Ticketless Cameron let off without a fine on the Tube

David Cameron was caught without a ticket while travelling by Tube to a Morrissey concert.

The Tory leader had to explain to an Underground inspector that he had lost his £3 ticket when he got stuck behind the barrier.

Mr Cameron, who had cycled to a Tube station before taking a train to the Wembley Arena, could have faced a £30 fine - but the inspector took pity on him and charged him just £3 for another ticket.

Realising he couldn't get through the barriers, Mr Cameron managed to find a ticket inspector. He reportedly pleaded: "I don't routinely break the law. I can assure you I did buy one."

At first he was given a stern ticking off by the LU employee who said: "Surely in your line of work you would have the money to buy a second ticket?"

Mr Cameron replied: "There's not much job security in my line of work."

His spokesman said: "David did buy a ticket. He was even able to produce the receipt for it when he arrived at Wembley Park.

Unfortunately he mislaid it and ended up paying for two. He wasn't trying to dodge his fare."
