Would you give your lover a Valentine's meal from POUNDLAND? Budget chain is selling a romantic three-course dinner for £7 - with little-known aphrodisiac POT NOODLE as the main course
- Three-course meal consists of crab on bruschetta, meatballs and chocolates
- 'Bruschetta antipasto' is Prince's crab meat and tomato and olive bread for £2
- £3 main is beef and tomato Pot Noodles, tin of beef meatballs and canned peas
- 'Artisanal chocolates' are a four-pack of Ferrero Rocher and after dinner mints
It's a special day for lovers to show one another how much they they care but the cost of cards, chocolates and a Valentine's meal together can add up.
And for the more cynical among us who resent being bombarded with marketing and the expense, there is now a cheaper alternative.
However, the Poundland three-course meal might send the wrong message if you are trying to show your partner just how much they are worth to you.
The Poundland three-course Valentine's meal, which costs just £7, but might send the wrong message to someone if you want to show them that you care
The starter is crab bruschetta antipasto, described by Poundland as a 'wonderfully decadent twist on the classic Italian appetiser'
The £7 meal includes a starter, a main course, and something sweet for dessert that could even double up as a gift.
But it might be unwise to expect a positive response to the company's description: 'Not just any Valentine’s meal, this is a Poundland Amazing Value three course meal.'
The starter is crab bruschetta antipasto, described by Poundland as a 'wonderfully decadent twist on the classic Italian appetiser'.
It consists of tomato and oregano bruschetta with Prince's crab meat on top, both of which cost £1.
Poundland describe the started as: 'Succulent crab meat tops delicately toasted, delicious and light bruschetta with tomato and oregano.'
However, it could be described as crab on toast by anyone expecting something a little more decadent on Valentine's Day.
The site suggests creating your own 'Lady and the Tramp moment' with its 'Look What We Found' meatballs on beef and tomato pot noodles
Finally, for desert, there is 'a refined selection of artisanal chocolates that suit a sophisticated pallet' - a Ferrero Rocher 4 Pack (pictured) and some after dinner mints
The main is 'mouth-watering meatballs with noodles', although it's not quite the classic Italian spaghetti dish most people would expect.
The £3 dish consists of beef and tomato pot noodles, two for £1, and a tin of 'Look What We Found Italian Beef Meatballs', which is also £1.
To complete the dish and 'recreate your Lady and the Tramp' moment, the website suggests Batchelors Garden Peas, three for £1.
The dish is described as 'tender meatballs and noodles in a rich tomato sauce enhanced by the subtle flavour of herbs and a sprinkling of peas throughout.
Finally, for desert, there is 'a refined selection of artisanal chocolates that suit a sophisticated pallet'.
Although a more honest description could be a Ferrero Rocher four-pack and some after dinner mints, each costing £1.
