A Heathrow security guard is among those being held over the alleged terror plot.
Amin Asmin Tariq, 23, was ready to set off for work when he was arrested at his terraced home in Walthamstow.
The young Muslim, who had a baby daughter three weeks ago, lives with his wife and father, Hussain Tariq, who owned a cleaning business until his retirement. It is understood that Asim's mother, Khalida Tariq, and his sister Kashif, 27, also live at the family home.
Jenny Smith, 64, a cosmetics worker who lives next to the family, said she was shocked by the arrest and said Asim could not have been in on the plot.
She added: 'Asim told me he had started working at Heathrow Airport he was really excited he had a new job at Heathrow and he said he really loved it. He had been working at Heathrow for about three years.
'The family are absolutely charming, I could not wish for better neighbours.
'The boys used to come round and talk to my dad. The family did not express any concerns about Asim. I am shocked because he was the least religious of all of them.
'He is a married man with a little baby, he's totally proud of his child. He came round two weeks ago to show me the baby and they are a very loving family.
'They never thrust religion down my throat, they never went around in religious clothes, there were no radicals going in and out of the house and there were no strange boxes being taken in and out.'
