Two police officers have been cleared of handcuffing and raping a woman on the back seat of their patrol car.
Pc Raymond Waring, 31, and Pc Stephen McGuire, 34, were accused of attacking the 21-year-old woman in the early hours of New Year's Eve 2002 in a quiet park in Warrington, Cheshire.
Members of the officers' families wept as the Chester Crown Court jury returned its not guilty verdicts after more than two days of deliberations.
Pc McGuire was also cleared of a misconduct charge relating to the incident on December 31.
The jury failed to reach a verdict on a similar charge relating to Pc Waring.
Speaking outside court, Pc McGuire said: "I am very, very relieved."
In a statement, he said: "I would like to express my gratitude to the jury after the vindication of my account of the events of New Year's Eve 2002.
"The allegation of rape was both malicious and vile, leading to an 18-month nightmare for me and my family."
