I've left it under the mat! Cheeky delivery driver hides parcel on doostep beneath doormat - despite it being 2ft tall
- Bee-keeping couple were due to have parts of a beehive delivered
- They returned home to find a huge parcel with their doormat on top
- They have seen the funny side of what they assume was a prank
A husband and wife were left stunned when they came home to find their parcel delivery 'hidden under the door mat' - despite it being a two foot tall box.
Bryden and Louise McKinnie were not at their home in East Lothian on Monday evening when new parts for their beehives were delivered.
They were left astonished when returned to find the huge box on their doorstep, but saw the funny side of what they assume was a joke by the delivery driver.
This was the scene that greeted two beekeepers after a delivery driver left a parcel 'under the doormat'
Mr McKinnie, 49, said: 'I'm not sure if the driver was making a genuine attempt to hide it but this wasn't such a good job if he was.
'The delivery driver was probably being cheeky and thought we might appreciate the joke. It certainly made us laugh a lot.
'Usually they leave note but I suppose what would they write here? 'Left hidden under the doormat'?'
The couple, who work as a children's entertainer duo known as Mighty Mac and Louise, keep beehives and routinely have parts delivered every few weeks during the summer.
The large containers for collecting bees had been ordered from beekeeping suppliers Thorne, who use a courier service for the delivery.
Bryden McKinnie saw the funny side of the prank and said that luckily he lives in a safe area
Mr McKinnie said: 'It's not the first time this has happened to us. A number of months ago I got a delivery of a parcel that was put under the mat in the same way.
'That one even had a note. But it was only four inches thick so it wasn't quite a ridiculous as this.
'We live in quite a safe area thankfully so the parcel was OK. However usually delivery drivers would leave it with neighbours when we are not in. Maybe they chose not to since it was so big.'
Rebecca Coleman, director at Thorne, explained that they use an external courier service for the delivery of items.
Rebecca said: 'Customers sometimes ask for parcels to be left in all sorts of places - yesterday we were asked to leave a parcel behind the fossil.
'However this is not as funny as when the carrier told us they couldn't leave the parcel at the requested Prison delivery address because there was no one in.'
