Attacks on London: Timeline

As emergency services react to four blasts across London, here are the key events which took place across the capital.

12.38pm: Emergency services start receiving calls about a series of incidents across London. Ambulance services are called to Oval station on the Northern line.

12.45pm: Ambulance services are called to the Warren Street station on the Northern and Victoria lines after reports of shots and a nail bomb explosion.

1.11pm Shepherd's Bush station on the Hammersmith and City line is evacuated.

1.25pm: London Underground suspends services on the Victoria, Hammersmith and City and Northern Lines.

1.30pm: Bus operator Stagecoach said the driver of a number 26 bus reported an explosion on board while passing through Hackney Road, on a junction near Columbia Road, in east London.

2.10pm: Police cordon off a large area near University College Hospital, near Warren Street, after reports of a suspect near the scene.

3.25pm: Police arrest a man outside Downing Street.

3.40pm: Prime Minister Tony Blair appears at a press conference saying that the purpose of the blasts in London were soley to terrorise people.

3.50pm: Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair appeals to Londoners to 'get London working again'.
