Jim: What I think about the campaigns so far

Well the election broadcasts are dreadful as usual. The first Labour broadcast was quite appalling and an insult to the electorate. I have to say that the Liberal Democrat broadcast was the most impressive of the first three. But do these broadcasts ever change anyone's mind about which way they will vote? I very much doubt it.
What I think about the campaigns
I have to say I admire the Conservative campaign so far. They are not afraid to tackle issues like immigration, travellers, school discipline, and yobbish behaviour, where Labour have quite simply failed. What a pity they still have the habit of shooting themselves in the foot by the behaviour of a few idiots.
I don't see anything standing out in particular about the Labour campaign. Their promises not to raise the income tax rates are complete nonsense - another insult to the intelligence of the voters. I think they suffer because of the anti-Blair factor but this simply does not seem to be reflected in the opinion polls. There are many who think Gordon Brown would make a much better PM than Blair. I do not share these views. His stealth taxes and raids on pension funds are clever because people don't really notice paying them, but they are basically dishonest.
I find the main planks of the Liberal Democrat campaign do not appeal to me at all. I have never supported their stand on Europe, or on taxation and council tax. Charles Kennedy unfortunately seriously blundered during the launch of his manifesto and one must question again whether he comes across as a leader.
Issues for me
I find the postal voting fraud issue quite appalling! To think such a thing is happening in this country today makes me weep. It should be sorted out immediately or all postal votes should be disqualified.
