Charles ditches Diana's ring
Last updated at 12:29 08 March 2005
Almost 24 years after it was first slipped on his finger, Prince Charles has stopped wearing the wedding ring given to him by Princess Diana.
He is believed to have removed the gold band the day after his engagement to Camilla Parker Bowles was announced last month.
In line with royal tradition, Charles wore his wedding ring on the little finger of his left hand, underneath a signet ring engraved with his fleur-de-lys crest. The last time he was clearly photographed with it on was at an official engagement in London in early January.
It is understood the Prince - who was yesterday continuing his tour of New Zealand - first removed the ring after he and Diana divorced in 1996.
But he was so traumatised by her death in 1997 that he decided to start wearing it again out o f respect.
