A brave cat is nursing a horrific set of injuries after he was strangled and nearly eaten alive by a huge carpet python.
Fiona Sheen let her two Burmese cats out to play in her small backyard in Queensland's Noosa Heads while she did some gardening, but her heart froze when she heard a desperate wailing noise.
It was coming from her cat 'Maax', back arched and howling in distress as he watched his two-year-old brother 'Ollie' under attack by a snake - which had tightly wrapped its body around him.
'The sheer look of terror on our cat's face was heartbreaking to see,' Mrs Sheen said on Facebook.

Adrenaline pumping, Mrs Sheen and her husband Rob immediately set at prying the python from their helpless silky grey cat - a job that required all their strength.
The non-venomous snake soon eased its grip, but not before sinking two deep bite wounds into little Ollie and a bite on Mr Sheen.
'There was no other option in those precious few seconds that Ollie most likely had left. We could not stand by and do nothing. We did what we thought was right for our much loved cat,' said Mrs Sheen.
'Seeing our beloved Ollie wrapped up by the python caused our protective instincts to kick in big time ... we had to at least try and save his life.'

As the snake slithered up a nearby tree, the couple called an emergency vet and a Sunshine Coast snake catcher, who quickly relocated the python.
'The vet and snake catcher both said another minute and the constriction would have done permanent damage,' Mrs Sheen told the Courier-Mail.
'Ollie has four or five sutures in over two bites. He also put his own tooth through his lip when the snake was latched on and wrapped around him, so is on painkillers and antibiotics.
'He's OK but wary now. He wants to stay under the bed, yet wants to come out to see us.
Mrs Sheen says the look of fear on her cats face still 'haunts' her, and will be investing in an outdoor cat enclosure so her two pets can enjoy playing outside safe from wildlife.
