Body discovered in garage suitcase
Last updated at 15:35 09 December 2004
The body of a man has been discovered in a burned-out suitcase, police said today.
The grim find was made in a garage in Dartford Avenue, near the junction with Mottingham Road, Edmonton, north London, Scotland Yard said.
A post-mortem examination today on the victim, who has yet to be identified, was unable to determine a cause of death, and further tests are awaited, a spokesman said.
Detectives believe the body, found yesterday, was taken to the garage by vehicle and appealed for help from anyone who might have seen or heard anything suspicious in the last few days.
The victim is believed to be black, 5ft 10in tall, and slim.
A piece of lining from the suitcase found at the scene revealed the words MULTI STAR in white on a dark background.
Acting Detective Chief Inspector Terry Geraghty said: "We would like to hear from anyone who believes that they might know the identity of the victim or who recognises the name from the suitcase.
"It is almost certain that the body was taken in the suitcase to the garage by vehicle and we would appeal to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious to contact us immediately."
Anyone with information was asked to contact the incident room at Barking on 020 8345 3865 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
