Motorists warned of chaos on the M25
Last updated at 09:40 13 November 2004
Drivers face motorway chaos today after a stretch of the M25 was closed in both directions following an accident.
A tanker carrying 33,000 litres of fuel overturned, killing its driver between junctions five and six and police shut the road.
It was expected to remain closed in both directions until at least mid-day and not fully reopen until around 8pm.
The Texaco tanker was travelling east close to the border of Surrey and Kent when it clipped the rear of another lorry and overturned into a field shortly before 11pm on Friday night.
The 29-year-old driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
Surrey Police imposed a 200m exclusion zone around the tanker because of the risk of explosion.
Specialist equipment was brought in to remove the fuel - both petrol and diesel.
Drivers were being urged to avoid the area and allow extra time for journeys.
