Terror suspect arrested in Birmingham

One man has been arrested in central England under Britain's anti-terrorism laws, police said.
The arrest in the city of Birmingham came a day after eight British suspects appeared in court charged in a plot linked to security alerts at financial targets in New York, New Jersey and Washington.
An anti-terror police spokesman said Thursday's arrest was not related to this operation.
The man, aged 19, was arrested under the Terrorism Act 2000, said police spokeswoman Daljinder Mattu.
The Terrorism Act, Britain's primary piece of anti-terrorist legislation, gives police greater powers to investigate terorrism, to stop and search suspects and to detain them for up to seven days.
Mattu said another two men, aged 24 and 36, were arrested in the same area "in relation to immigration matters".
The nationalities of the three men were not immediately available and there were no further details on the arrest.
Britain has arrested more than 600 terror suspects since the September 11 attacks on the United States but has charged fewer than 100 and convicted only 15 of terrorism offences.
