The Cops
9PM BBC2 The new series fails to make the same impact as the first series. Docu-style is so common, this is starting to look polished by comparison, almost like a more depressing NYPD Blue. But it's still head and shoulders above other dramas. Tonight, Giffen (Rob Dixon), who is turning into a posh-boy Burnside, comes up against Wakefield (David Crellin) in a local drug family feud, which lends the show more plot than usual. Not sure if that's a good thing, as the structure used to be looser, with plot being secondary to exploring problems within the force. The Bill gave in to pressure to give a more positive (ie, sterile) portrayal of the police. It would be tragic if this goes the same way.
