Air passenger made 'gun in bag' claim
A man has been given a verbal caution after claiming to have guns in his bag while at a British international airport.
Staff at Leeds Bradford Airport stopped the man from boarding a flight to the Czech Republic and contacted police after he claimed to have guns in his bag at the check-in desk.
A spokesman for airline Jet2.com, which operates flights to Prague, confirmed the Friday morning incident.
He said: "We can confirm that a man was detained by Special Branch following a security incident at the check-in desk.
"The man, who was travelling in a party of 24 to the Czech capital, was refused boarding.
We understand that Special Branch were satisfied that the passenger had no firearms in his possession and he was given a verbal warning about his conduct.
"We take security matters and the safety of our passengers extremely seriously."
A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "We were called by staff at an airline at Leeds Bradford Airport on Friday morning because of a comment made by a male passenger at check-in.
"Officers attended the airport and spoke to the man involved and advised him accordingly.
We would advise passengers that matters of security are taken very seriously by airport staff and police."
It is believed the man was the best man in a group of 24 who were heading to Prague for a stag weekend.
