Britain in icy grip of snow and winds
Much of Britain has shivered in snow showers and bitter winds as the cold weather kept its icy grip on the country.
Aberdeen was cloaked in 11cm of snow compared with 6cm in Aviemore, Scotland, according to PA WeatherCentre. Parts of North Wales and East Yorkshire were 4cm deep in snow.
Moel-Y-Crio in north-east Wales had the coldest midday temperature at minus 2 degrees C.
Meanwhile Exeter, Devon, enjoyed the UK's highest midday temperature at 6 degrees C.
The Midlands, London and other parts of south-east England have so far escaped the snow showers which hit the rest of the country, a forecaster from PA WeatherCentre said.
But a band of snow coming in from the North could affect even those areas during the night.
"There is a band heading towards most of England and Wales. There is a chance that everywhere could see some snow," the forecaster said.
The nation has been in the grip of a cold snap since the weekend with temperatures dipping well below freezing overnight in many areas.
Roads in Aberdeenshire and Norfolk were the most badly affected by the icy conditions, a spokeswoman for AA Roadwatch said.
Motorists are being warned to drive only if necessary when the big freeze continues.
