Alaska authorities say they have shot and killed a black bear that lumbered through the front door of a home in the state's capital while people were inside.

Police say the bear appeared briefly in a doorway, and an officer fired a shotgun twice at the animal.

It ran behind the home and was later found dead.
The bizarre home invasion took place at around 2pm Saturday in the 400 block of Rawn Way in Juneau.
According to Sgt Chris Gifford, the unwelcome guest came in through the front door. The doorknob didn't work, so the door could be pushed open easily, KTUU reported.
Until police arrived on the scene, the furry intruder remained on the first floor of the two-story residence not far from the inhabitants of the house.
