Human FOOT inside a sneaker washes up on Seattle beach as local police reveal more than a dozen have been found in similar circumstances over the last six years
Volunteers in Seattle's Centennial Park made a horrific discovery Tuesday when they came upon a tennis shoe with a human foot still lodged inside.
There have been about a dozen similar cases of feet appearing on local beaches over the last six years.
However there's not enough information to determine whether this foot is connected to any of those other feet discovered around Metro Vancouver, Vancouver Island, and Washington State between 2007 and 2013.
Volunteers discovered a human foot still inside a sneaker while cleaning up a Seattle park
Officials say it's too soon to tell whether this foot is connected to several other cases of feet washing up that have been reported in recent years
CTV Vancouver reports the volunteers were there to clean the area.
'Could we guaranteed that it is not at this point? No. But we don’t know anything about this, it was in Seattle. If they think they need to, they’ll make contact with our identification and disaster response unit.' Barb McLintock of the BC Coroner Service told News 1130.
'I suspect that the chances aren’t high [this matches any of the previous feet], but this will be up to the American authorities to start. If they think there could be any linkage they in due course could contact our service,' she added.
McClintock said feet naturally tend to come apart from remains in the water and shoes float to the surface. Almost all the feet found in the province have been identified.
Feet become easily detached in water while sneakers allow them to float, said a representative from the coroner's office
However Peter McGraw of the Port of Seattle said it is not common to see feet wash up in this part of Seattle.
'Our police were called and we had turned the foot over to the medical examiner. They will be investigating it further to see if they can find the identity of the person,' he said.
He noted that port staff remembered the BC cases and were interested in a potential connection.
