- One of the students has been cited for marijuana possession
Four students could face disciplinary action from the University of Utah after they were discovered by police smoking marijuana in an igloo.
A security guard caught the friends after hearing voices and smelling drugs as he walked near woodland on the campus.
After following the noises, he found a group of young men inside a 4ft tall igloo, allegedly smoking drugs.
Drug den: Four students were discovered smoking weed inside this igloo
The snowy smoking den was discovered on January 31, and one of the students discovered inside was cited for marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
It is not known if the students built the igloo, which had walls 10cm thick, or if it had been abandoned.
Sergeant Garth Smith said that a sledgehammer was used to destroy the drug hideout.
'We have an issue with transient camps in the area. We try and keep the area clear,' he told NBC News.
The igloo had been found hidden among trees, between the university's research park and its housing area.
All four students have now been referred to university officials who will decide what action will be taken for drug-taking on campus.
Concealed: What appears to be a cardboard door can be seen at the entrance to the 4ft high structure
