A five-year-old girl was struck and killed by a car while trick-or-treating in Decatur near Atlanta last night.

Police said the girl, Autumn Mac, was with a group of people and the parents were present at the time of the incident which  happened around 7pm.

LIttle Autumn was standing in the roadway behind her mother's car.

What happened: Officers said Mac was standing in the roadway behind her mother's car. A mini-van was turning left onto the road when Mac attempted to run across the road and was hit by the vehicle

Just as a mini-van was turning left into the road, she attempted to run across the road and was struck by the vehicle.

'The child was seriously injured at the scene and was transported to Egleston for further treatment and evaluation.

Unfortunately she has died as a result of those injuries that she sustained in this accident,' said Detective Lorentz Armstrong with the DeKalb County Police Department.

Officers at the scene said they do not believe speed was a factor in the incident.

Police have said that speed as well as alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor.
