Actor Sir David Jason says he would happily reprise the role of Del Boy – if a writer as good as Only Fools And Horses creator John Sullivan can be found.

Plans for a 30th anniversary special featuring the loveable rogue, pictured left in his prime, were shelved after Sullivan’s death in 2011.

But speaking at the launch of UKTV’s latest channel Drama, Sir David, 73, said: ‘To my mind there is no other writer capable of doing the show justice. However, if you can find me one then I’ll consider it.’

 

Nicky, the matinee idol

Interior designer Nicky Haslam is adding a new string to his bow – by becoming a pop star at 73.

His debut album, Midnight Matinee, is launched tomorrow with a bash at his London home.

Guests will include Bob Geldof, Cilla Black, Tracey Emin and Rupert Everett, who appear on the record.

They shouldn’t expect too much debauchery, though. ‘The party will be over by 9pm,’ Nicky jokes.

‘I need to start off civilised. Next year when I’m doing Glastonbury we can ramp it up a bit.’

 

Dominic West adopted an unhealthy approach to help him capture the gravel voice of hell-raiser Richard Burton.

The Old Etonian, who stars opposite Helena Bonham Carter’s Elizabeth Taylor in the BBC film Burton & Taylor, said: ‘I worked out you have to smoke about 20 fags and have a few stiff drinks to get it perfect.’
