Two sightings of Pc murder suspect
The man wanted for questioning in connection with the Boxing Day murder of a traffic policeman may still be within a few miles of where the officer was shot, detectives said.
Nathan Wayne Coleman, 37, the man police urgently want to talk to about the killing of Pc Ian Broadhurst in Leeds, was spotted in Bradford city centre and in Brighouse town centre.
Detective Superintendent Chris Gregg, who is leading a team of 50 officers in the investigation, said he had also heard from a taxi driver who took nightclub doorman Coleman to Bradford within hours of the shooting.
The detective told a press conference in Leeds: "We are satisfied that these sightings are him. We are confident he has been here in West Yorkshire very recently."
Mr Gregg also revealed officers involved in the inquiry had raided a self-storage unit in Leeds after a tip-off and found a quantity of home-made bullets as well as machinery for making ammunition.
He said forensic inquiries were under way to see if there was any link between the rounds recovered and those used in the Boxing Day shootings.
Married Pc Broadhurst, 34, from Cookridge, Leeds, died after he was shot by a man who had been sitting in the back of his police car in Dib Lane, Leeds.
His colleague Pc Neil Roper, 45, was shot twice by the same man and is still recovering in hospital.
Mr Gregg said father-of-two Pc Roper was recovering well but could only help detectives for short periods of time under the guidance of medical staff. A third officer, Pc James Banks, 26, was also shot at but the round ricocheted of his radio belt and baton buckle.
The shootings happened after Pc Broadhurst and Pc Roper approached a stolen BMW in Dib Lane. They placed the driver in the back of their patrol car and Pc Roper was about to handcuff him when he produced the gun. After firing a number of shots at the three officers the gunman then hijacked a Rover car from a nearby couple and drove away.
