Spare a thought for their teachers! School has NINE sets of twins in single year group
Staff and pupils alike are experiencing a lesson in deja-vu as they try to cope with a UK record of nine sets of twins.
Teachers at the twin-tastic school believe there are so many among its Year Seven starters that the amount is now a record.
One teacher compared the double trouble phenomenon to Noah's Ark, but instead of animals it is twins coming in two by two.
See double: Netherthorpe School believes it may have set a new record for the most number of twins in one year
Assistant headteacher Peter Bamford said: ‘It's twin-credible. As we began talking to new pupils' parents at the start of the new term it dawned on us that we had so many twins.
‘I've never come across anything like this in over 30 years of teaching. We've had twins coming through the school but nothing on this scale at the same time and in the same year.’
He added that it was understood the record for the most twins in the same academic year at a British school was eight, recorded four years ago, and has contacted the Guinness Book of Records to see if Netherthorpe School, near Chesterfield in Derbyshire, now has the title.
Spot the difference: The twins have been spread out in different classes to ease the confusion for teachers
The twins include Zack and Kirsty Smith, Courtney and Bethany Hopkinson, Rebecca and Sam Jinks, Emily and Lucy Clark, Santino and Luca Paoli, Oliver and Josh Wells, Aairun and Kian Tennant, Tom and Max Dungworth, and Anton and Terri Wood.
While some of the siblings have been put into different classes some are in the same one depending on their parents' preferences.
But the school has been careful not to put more than one set into the same class - just to ease the confusion.
‘There is no more than one set of twins in any one class which must be a relief to our teachers.
‘It's been like Noah's Ark with twins coming in two-by-two.
'We're very proud to have them all with us and they have become a big talking point,’ said Mr Bamford.
The twins would, of course, been born around the turn of the Millennium and in fact Tom and Max Dungworth and Kirsty and Zach Smith share even the same June 2 birthday.
