Climbie 'lessons must be learned'
The man who chaired an inquiry into the horrific death of eight-year-old Victoria Climbie is outlining today how similar tragedies could be averted.
Victoria died after being abused and tortured by her great aunt Marie Therese Kouao and Kouao's boyfriend, Carl Manning, at their flat in Tottenham, north London. Both are serving life for murder.
The report by Lord Laming on the independent inquiry into the girl's death in February 2000, was published earlier this year, detailing a catalogue of administrative and professional failures. Lord Laming is today delivering a keynote speech to a conference, Working in Partnership to Protect Children from Abuse and Neglect, being held in Victoria, London.
He is focusing on the recommendations of the inquiry and is detailing what can be done to stop abuse and neglect of children.
Healthcare workers, the police, social workers and GPs will be among the delegates at the event.
