Secret mistress of Fred the Shred quits her role at RBS to 'explore other options'
Super-injunction: Sir Fred Goodwin tried to conceal an affair with a colleague
The mistress of disgraced banker Sir Fred Goodwin has resigned from her role at the Royal Bank of Scotland.
During Sir Fred’s tenure, the woman ran a large team but now wants to explore other options.
Sir Fred had concealed their affair from staff. At the time the bank was heading for collapse, he took out a super-injunction to try to prevent details of the relationship being revealed. He claimed disclosure would have a ‘serious negative impact on my personal life and career’.
The married 52-year-old – nicknamed ‘Fred the Shred’ – has never spoken publicly about the affair.
Last week a High Court judge refused to lift an order banning journalists from naming his mistress, but details of a witness statement he gave were revealed.
In the statement, made in March before the existence of his privacy injunction was made public in the Commons, Sir Fred said: ‘The nature of any relationship between me and VBN [his mistress] is an entirely private matter.’
He provoked fury after leaving his RBS job with £3 million and a £342,000-a-year pension.
