British Nobel hat-trick
Briton Clive Granger and American Robert Engle have won the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences.
Prof Granger was born in Swansea, but completed his education at West Bridgford Grammar School, near Loughborough.
He then went to Nottingham University, becoming one of the initial intake into the first-ever joint degree in economics and mathematics.
He now on the faculty at the University of California.
Prof Granger becomes the third Briton to win a Nobel Prize this week and the second with connections to Nottingham University.
