Backpacker escapes from kidnappers
A British teenager kidnapped in Colombia has escaped from the guerrillas who captured him 12 days ago, says the Foreign Office.
Backpacker Matthew Scott, 19, escaped while on a forced walk through the jungle and was picked up later by the army.
Londoner Mr Scott was seized with TV producer Mark Henderson, 31, from Harrogate, North Yorkshire, and six other tourists on September 12.
The group were trekking to the Ciudad Perdida (the Lost City), ancient ruins in mountainous jungle in northern Colombia.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: "I can confirm that one of the British hostages is free."
