Drama as Concorde forced to divert
A BA Concorde has had to divert to Cardiff Airport after an engine problem, the airline said.
The supersonic jet was on a flight from New York's JFK airport to London Heathrow when the pilot diverted to Cardiff.
The jet, carrying 99, passengers, experienced an "engine surge" during the flight and so flew subsonic, said a spokesman for BA.
This uses up more fuel and as a result flight BA002 had to divert to Cardiff International Airport instead of landing at Heathrow.
"It was not an emergency landing and the safety of the passengers or crew were not compromised," said a BA spokesman.
He added: "The aircraft experienced a temporary engine surge in one of the four engines during the flight.
"As a result the aircraft flew sub-sonic for the rest of the journey. It uses more fuel and as a result it had to divert into Cardiff."
The Concorde jet landed safely.
