Copters on stand-by in flats blaze
Helicopters have been brought into a rescue operation after fire broke out in a 15-storey block of flats.
The aircraft were on standby as people were evacuated from High Cross Court in Clifford Street, Radford, Nottingham.
Nottinghamshire Fire Brigade said fire had broken out on the fifth floor of the flats which were built in 1966.
A spokeswoman for the fire brigade said 15 fire engines were at the site.
The fire brigade spokeswoman said "a number of people" had been led to safety but could not say how many, nor how many could be inside.
Three people have been taken to hospital, with very minor injuries, such as smoke inhalation, East Midlands Ambulance service spokesman Phil Morris said from the scene.
"I think the fire must be out, there's no more smoke now," he said.
Clifford Street resident Michael Howden said he saw smoke coming from the block of flats at about 1pm.
He told PA News: "I didn't see any fire but lots of black smoke.
"People were being led to ambulances, about four people, and there have been police, ambulances and a helicopter here.
"The roads are all taped off."
