Adoption couples in Oprah showdown
by GEORGE GORDON, Daily Mail
The British couple who adopted twins over the Internet went on the Oprah Winfrey show last night.
Judith and Alan Kilshaw appeared on the U.S. talk show with Vickie and Richard Allen, the American couple who also claim to have adopted the girls.
It was the first time the couples had met since it emerged that the Kilshaws had paid £6,000 for the six-month-old babies, while the Allens had paid £4,000.
The twins are currently in the care of British social services while a legal fight goes on over their future.
A spokesman for the Oprah show, recorded in Chicago, said: 'It was fascinating material.
'For the first time, people were getting some idea of the emotional turmoil these parents went through. They both still want the twins despite everything that has gone on.'
The Kilshaws' legal adoption of the twins in Arkansas is being challenged by the Allens and also by the babies' natural father. The twins' mother, Tranda Wecker, says she wants them back, and the Kilshaws are demanding that the authorities return the babies to them.
The Kilshaws, from Buckley, North Wales, last week told a High Court judge who has launched an international legal inquiry to determine the twins' fate that they would not to talk about the case.
By going to America, they will no doubt hope to get round the legal gag imposed by the judge.
