Pilot ejects as RAF plane crashes
The pilot of an RAF jet ejected from his plane today as it crashed into a field, the Ministry of Defence said.
The sole occupant of the Hawk training aircraft was airlifted to Scarborough General Hospital in North Yorkshire with injuries which were not throught to be life-threatening, an RAF spokeswoman said.
North Yorkshire Police said the accident occurred in a field near Sinnington between the towns of Pickering and Kirkbymoorside.
The RAF spokeswoman said the Hawk was based at RAF Valley in Anglesey, North Wales.
She said it went down at around 12.45pm.
The pilot ejected and was picked up by an RAF crew.
She added: "He has been taken to hospital and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
"A mountain rescue team are on their way to secure the site."
