'No harm' to missing Summer
Six-year-old Summer Haipule was not harmed during her disappearance overnight. Police said that medical tests have shown her to be well and healthy and the criminal investigation is over.
The girl had gone for medical tests after a criminal investigation was launched following her discovery at a neighbour's house.
Summer Haipule was reported missing last night after a family friend spotted the youngster being dragged into a car outside a fish and chip shop less than a mile from her home in Moulsecoomb, Brighton.
A massive police search had been continuing this morning until at 7.10am a neighbour alerted police to say the youngster had been found lying under a cot.
Chief Supt Curtis said she had the medical "because of the distress that Summer was suffering when she was found".
Mr Curtis said the house was visited twice during the night, but not searched.
This morning, the owner of the house went in to check on her own child and found Summer asleep under the cot safe and well.
'The most dreadful night'
Summer's parents Minday and Dragon earlier emerged from the house with the six-year-old.
They paused briefly on the steps of the house where she was found and then walked back to their own house just six doors down.
Fighting back tears, Summer's father said: "We are so happy. This has been the most dreadful night of our lives."
Summer, wearing a pink dress, had her face buried in her mother's shoulder as photographers and cameramen recorded the moment she was reunited in public with her parents.
It is not yet clear how she managed to wander into the neighbour's house and fall asleep under the cot without being noticed.
The woman who found Summer spoke of the moment she spotted the youngster under her baby's cot.
Vicky Wilson said she went into her children's room shortly after 7am. She said: "I went in to check on my baby and my five-year-old son, who sleeps in a bed next to the cot.
"I suddenly noticed a book moving under the cot. I peered underneath and there she was, there was Summer.
"She was just lying there reading. She seemed absolutely fine. I can't believe my son did not notice her there."
