Cash found stashed in charity shop donation
A charity shop worker sifting through bin bags of donated property found thousands of pounds in cash, police said today.
The cash was inside envelopes in a dustbin liner of unwanted goods at a shop in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.
Bosses at the shop, which has not been identified, want to trace the donor to check if the cash was included accidentally or as an intentional gift.
A spokeswoman for Cheshire Constabulary said: "It is not clear whether the cash was inadvertently caught up with other property that somebody donated.
"The charity shop and police are attempting to find the rightful owner and clarify the circumstances of the money coming to be with other property in the shop."
The exact amount of cash and number of envelopes was being kept secret to prevent people making false claims.
Anyone who donated property to a charity shop in Ellesmere Port before April 29, and believes the cash may be theirs, is asked to contact Cheshire Constabulary.
