Home-workers 'tend to do too much work'
Working from home can be a "double-edged sword" for employees because they tended to work in the evenings and at weekends, according to a new report.
Home-workers were often pressured into putting in long hours and faced the usual stress of trying to balance work and family commitments, a study found.
A poll of 100 home-workers, mainly in Wales and the North of England, showed a tendency to overwork.
Some of those questioned by researchers at the University of Teesside for the Economic and Social Research Council complained that they could not relax or escape from work.
"Most of those who were interviewed thought of flexibility as a benefit, but also admitted it resulted in their working in the evenings and weekends," said the report.
