Iraqi missile 'aimed at Kuwait'
An Iraqi missile launched at Kuwait today was destroyed before it could reach residential areas.
A Kuwaiti patriot missile battery intercepted the missile, launched across the border from southern Iraq at about 8.30am UK time, the coalition press centre in the capital confirmed.
There was no information on whether or not it had been a Scud missile, used extensively by the Iraqis during the 1991 Gulf War but banned under United Nations restrictions imposed in the wake of that conflict.
Several missiles were fired at Kuwait last week and there are numerous air raid warnings across the Gulf state, which is on a state of alert.
"A missile was launched at Kuwait. It was taken out by a Kuwaiti patriot team," an American coalition spokesman said.
