Florida to see colder temperatures than ICELAND as bomb cyclone dropped historic amount of snow to the US

Temperatures in Florida are expected to plummet lower than Iceland amid the raging bomb cyclone bringing record-breaking snow, powerful winds and dangerous ice to the Southeast.

The Sunshine State has not been living up to its name since the winter storm brought in frigid temperatures and snow flurries on Sunday.

Forecasts for the nighttime have revealed that Floridians should brace themselves for temperatures colder than those in the Nordic island country of Iceland.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has warned that a 'hard freeze' is expected from Sunday night through Monday morning.

Low temperatures are expected to be in the upper teens while highs are only anticipated to reach the 20s.

'Ensure you take actions to protect people, pipes, and plants. To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly,' the NWS wrote.

In Tampa Bay, the NWS said that 'temperatures will drop to below freezing again for most areas.'

Hard freeze temperatures as low as 22 degrees and wind chills as low as 17 degrees in the northern and central portions of the region.

Locals were urged to secure any loose objects as part of the wind advisory, which will also make it hard to drive high–profile vehicles.

Being on the water will also become perilous for small boats and vessels, according to authorities.

According to AccuWeather, Orlando could see a 'dangerously cold' low of 29 degrees tonight - breaking the record of 32 degrees set in 1980.

Meanwhile, in Reykjavik, Iceland, it is about 38 degrees, according to AccuWeather

More than 150 million Americans are under cold weather warnings as a bomb cyclone, a kind of 'winter hurricane' that generates violent winds when air pressure drops quickly, sweeps in.

The storm system has been dubbed 'Winter Storm Gianna' by The Weather Channel

States including the Carolinas, Virginia and Georgia have been worst affected, with snow seen falling as far south as Tampa, Florida.

In central Florida, temperatures as low as the high teens are possible. At this time of year, thermometers are more typically hitting the 70s.

Meteorologist Ryan Hall, known as 'The Internet's Weather Man,' warned that the bomb cyclone will develop in the Atlantic this week and spiral like a tropical cyclone.

'That's pretty much a hurricane,' Hall said on Tuesday. 'Whoever ends up on the western side of that in the cold area is going to get absolutely clobbered with snow.'

'Another arctic blast is going to come around the backside of this low-pressure system, probably the most powerful one of the year so far, and it's going to plummet temperatures down 30 degrees below average,' the meteorologist warned.

Some affected areas are still recovering from last weekend's Winter Storm Fern, with residents experiencing power outages.
