A Gold Coast influencer claims a restaurant charged her more for a dish than had been displayed on the menu.
The 25-year-old joined friends for dinner at Latin American restaurant Norté at Mermaid Beach, indulging in cocktails, oysters and Angus ribeye steak.
But she was irritated when she discovered the barramundi she ordered was listed at $65 on the bill, but had been displayed on the menu for $60.
'The only reason why I noticed this was because I clocked on the menu that it was a really expensive piece of fish,' she told her followers on Tuesday.
When she questioned the discrepancy with a staff member, she claimed the 'vibe got weird' and was told the menu had changed 'for some reason'.
When the influencer asked if the rest of the bill varied from the menu prices, the staff member asked if she would like to check them against the menu, which she agreed to.
'The service vibe that I got wasn't the best. When she brought the menu over, she literally put it on the table and walked away, and I didn't see her again,' she said.
The influencer said the restaurant eventually agreed to reduce the bill to the menu price.
A woman was upset when paying her bill at the restaurant Norté at Mermaid Beach
She discovered the barramundi she had ordered for $60 was listed as $65 on the bill
'It was 10.30pm and this restaurant was closing at 11pm, (but) when I tell you they had brought the bill over to us without us asking. They were packing up all the chairs.'
'It was clear that they were trying to show us out.
'I posted about it on my Instagram and apparently I'm not the only one that this has happened to, and I'm worried that this is common practice.'
Norté told the Daily Mail the situation was a 'result of an honest miscommunication', which led to a $5 discrepancy.
'The advertised price was honoured at the time of payment, and the issue has since been rectified,' a spokesperson said.
One commenter said the influencer's post struck a chord: 'No way because that literally happened to us.'
Another added: 'This has happened to me at several fancy restaurants on the (Gold Coast). So I always check now.'
One social media user jumped to Norté's defence, saying the price difference should be corrected, but that it was a 'pretty easy mistake'.
The influencer complained staff did not respond well when she raised the issue of the price
'They’ve obviously increased the price... but maybe an old menu was still in circulation. They definitely need to honour any price advertised though.'
Others have also taken the situation as a sign of the increasing cost of living, with one making a very tongue-in-cheek remark.
'Inflation is moving so fast the prices change before you’ve finished your meal,' they wrote.
