Peter Mandelson called Jeffrey Epstein his 'best pal' in birthday message as photo of himself in a bathrobe with the paedophile billionaire is released
Lord Mandelson called Jeffrey Epstein his 'best pal' in a ten-page birthday message to the convicted paedophile.
The missive was among a trove of documents released by US lawmakers last night and formed part of a 'birthday book' given to Epstein by Ghislaine Maxwell in 2003.
Mandelson, who Sir Keir Starmer appointed in December as the British Ambassador to the US, supplied a picture of himself talking to Epstein while dressed in a bathrobe with slick hair.
He is seen laughing while sitting on a chair on the decking outside a home.
In another image, a topless Lord Mandelson wearing swimming shorts gazes out while on a balcony.
Lord Mandelson describes Epstein in the handwritten note as 'mysterious' and 'an intelligent, sharp-witted man' who had 'parachuted into my life'.
'You would spend many hours just waiting for him to turn up. And often, no sooner were you getting used to loving him around, you would suddenly be alone... again,' he wrote.
The letter features other photos of Lord Mandelson, where in one he is stood next to two females, with one wearing a white vest and black underwear, in which he writes Epstein would leave 'you with some "interesting" friends to entertain'.

He added: 'But, wherever he is in the world, he remains my best pal! Happy Birthday, Jeffrey. We love you!!'
The Daily Mail has contacted the Foreign Office for comment, but Lord Mandelson said in May about Epstein: ''My knowledge of him is something I regret, I wish I'd never met him in the first place.'
Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence for recruiting young girls for Epstein to sexually abuse, compiled the 238-page love-in for the financier's 50th birthday.
Representatives of the late, disgraced financier turned over the images to Congress as part of the investigation into his crimes.
Lord Mandelson's letter was published for the first time on the same day that similar letters to Epstein allegedly by Donald Trump and Bill Clinton were also made public.
A photo showing a Mar-a-Lago member making a crude joke about Trump 'buying' a girl from the financier also emerged.
Clinton wrote a single paragraph wishing Epstein well for the birthday gift organized by his right-hand woman Ghislaine Maxwell in 2003, according to The Wall Street Journal.
'It's reassuring isn't it, to have lasted as long, across all the years of learning and knowing, adventures and [illegible word], and also to have your childlike curiosity, the drive to make a difference and the solace of friends,' read the message scrawled in Clinton's handwriting.

President Donald Trump is under fire once again after a birthday letter bearing his signature was released by Epstein's estate. White House press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said it proves the 'entire "Birthdar Card" story is false' and denied Trump drew the picture or signed the letter
Clinton has long maintained he did not know of the allegations against Epstein. He was awaiting trial on child sex trafficking charges when he committed suicide in his cell.
All of the images have been turned over to the House Oversight Committee following a Congressional subpoena of the Epstein estate.
The famed birthday book includes one purported to be by Trump that included a signature resembling the president's.
'A pal is a wonderful thing,' the letter allegedly written by Trump states. 'Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.'
White House aides were quick to push back on the released image and threaten lawsuits over the allegations.
'The latest piece published by the Wall Street Journal proves this entire "Birthday Card" story is false,' Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on X. 'As I have said all along, it's very clear President Trump did not draw this picture, and he did not sign it.
'President Trump's legal team will continue to aggressively pursue litigation,' her statement continued, lambasting the reporter for publishing 'fake news' about the 'Democrat Epstein Hoax!'
Trump has also decried the continued focus on the Epstein files as a 'Democrat hoax,' despite bipartisan concern about a government cover-up.
