Sydney light rail stopped for urgent repairs: When it will return

Two light rail services in Sydney were brought to a halt on Thursday, just one week after the train network went down over a single incident.

The L2 and L3 services went down about 10am due to urgent repairs at the Town Hall stop in the city centre.

The service was cut off from Circular Quay to Town Hall.

Commuters were advised to instead use the trains running between the two hubs.

The light rail services continued to operate from Town Hall to both Randwick and Juniors Kingsford.

Just last week, commuters were left stranded when a live wire fell on a train and brought down services across the city's train network.

The incident occurred at Strathfield in the western suburbs but caused delays across four lines.

NSW Premier Chris Minns announced a free fare day and internal review in response to the incident.

Mr Minns said residents and visitors alike were fed up with the regular train disruptions.

'(Peoples') patience has worn thin and I want them to know that the government has heard that message,' he said.

On Tuesday this week, commuters were similarly delayed by a power issue on a Metro train at Barangaroo before services went live again at 7pm.

Metro Trains Sydney staff were forced to manually open doors of a train to let commuters off while it experienced a mechanical issue.

One of the 100 passenger on the train took to social media and warned that the service going to Sydenham was 'unable to move'.

Staff managed to open the door for people to get out 15 minutes later but the train remained stuck.
