Peter Dutton could be forced to find a career outside of politics after losing the federal election to Anthony Albanese and being booted from his electoral district.
The Liberal leader is the first opposition leader in Australian history to lose their own seat at a federal election after Ali France took Dickson from him with a massive 8.2 per cent swing to Labor.
Mr Dutton had held his Brisbane seat for 24 years, but it took just two hours for it to be revealed that he'd been turfed out.
'Twenty-four years is a long time in public life and that is an amazing honour,' he said on Saturday night after his defeat.
'I thank the Australian people for the faith they have placed in me.'
Mr Dutton is also expected to be rapidly replaced as Liberal leader as his party scrambles to find a suitable candidate in a desperate bid to restore faith in voters following the humiliating election defeat.
The double loss will no doubt appear to have left Mr Dutton up the creek without a paddle as he considers his next move.
He could follow in the footsteps of former Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison who joined a consulting firm run by Trump's former national security advisor.

Mr Dutton was frequently compared to US President Donald Trump throughout the election campaign.
His controversial immigration polices, including sending asylum seeks to offshore detention centres, led voters to see Mr Dutton as Australia's answer to Trump.
Meanwhile, his pledge to cut public sector jobs, reminded Australians of billionaire Elon Musk's DOGE, or Department of Government Efficiency.
Although the comparison to Trump may have cost him the election, it could lead Mr Dutton to a brand new career.
Mr Morrison retired from public life after his Coalition was defeated by the Labor Party in 2022.
He joined American Global Strategies LLC as non-executive Vice Chairman last January.
Trump's former national security advisor Robert O'Brien served as Trump's hostage affairs envoy before becoming his top national security aide.
He said in a statement Mr Morrison would 'bring high-level relationships and unique geopolitical insights to our clients'.

He posted a photo on X featuring himself and his wife, Jenny, alongside Trump and his wife, Melania, at the Palm Beach, Florida club.
Mr Dutton will not be any rush to find jump into a new career for money's sake as holds a multi-million dollar property portfolio.
He reportedly made $30million of property transactions over 35 years, which made him one of richest-ever contenders for Prime Minister.
Mr Dutton purchased his first home at 19, before going on to buy and sell 26 pieces of real estate, according to an analysis of property and corporate records, parliamentary registers and real estate data carried out by the Sydney Morning Herald.
Mr Dutton, 54, reportedly turned a healthy profit from his various real estate investments, with property purchases totalling $12million and sales of $18.8million.
The properties include luxury city apartments, childcare centres, a shopping plaza, a beachfront mansion and a farm.
At his peak, the leader of the Coalition owned five properties at the same time across Queensland, in addition to a flat in the ACT.
However, in the last few years, Mr Dutton and his wife, Kirrily, off-loaded their massive property portfolio, netting almost $5million.
They now only own one property: a 68-hectare farm in Dayboro, Queensland, purchased for $2.1million in August 2020.
