New Shipman inquiry launched
Police are to launch an investigation into the deaths of 62 patients of serial killer GP Harold Shipman which were among those highlighted in a report last week, it has been announced.
A new incident room has been set up in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester and detectives are starting the task of contacting relatives of patients whose deaths are regarded as suspicious.
The clinical audit commissioned by the Department of Health and published last week said that Shipman, 54, could have been responsible for the deaths of up to 300 patients.
The 62 deaths are cases not covered by the original massive police inquiry into Shipman, who is serving life after being convicted at Preston Crown Court a year ago of the murders of 15 elderly women patients by diamorphine injections.
