Fatima Payman has unleashed on the Labor government for holding a 'double standard' for incidents of anti-Semitism and Islamophobia in Australia.

The senator accused Australian politicians of having very different responses to the firebombing at Adass Israel synagogue in Melbourne on Friday and the arson of a bus belonging to an Islamic school in Adelaide on Sunday.

'Two acts of arson, two acts of hate, but two very different responses,' Senator Payman said in a heated rant shared to Instagram on Tuesday.

'In Melbourne a synagogue was tragically set on fire. It was quickly declared a terrorist attack. Leaders across the country condemned it, pledging millions of dollars to support the Jewish community.

'But in Adelaide, an Islamic school bus was torched. Police suspect it was racially motivated. Yet there's no outrage, there's no pledges of support, and certainly no declaration of terrorism. Why the double standard?

'Antisemitism is condemned as it should be, but Islamophobia? It's ignored, downplayed or dismissed. This government says it stands against hate, but clearly not all hate is treated equally.'

However, Senator Payman's claim the bus arson was racially motivated was inaccurate - with SAPOL on Monday saying they had 'so far not identified any evidence to indicate it was racially or politically motivated'.

A spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia they had no further updates on Wednesday.

The school bus, belonging to IQRA Islamic College in southern Adelaide, was set alight just before midnight on Sunday and though police believe the fire was deliberately lit, it's not believed to be a racially or politically motivated attack.

Nobody was injured in the blaze, but the bus was badly damaged.

The arson of the Adass Israel synagogue, which gutted the building, has been declared an act of terrorism as police continue to hunt three suspects.

The offenders are believed to have torched the building early on Friday morning as worshippers arrived for morning prayers on the eve of the Jewish Sabbath.

Terrified worshippers were forced to flee the building, with two people suffering minor injuries.

The damage bill of the attack is expected to cost millions of dollars, with the synagogue almost completely destroyed in the blaze.

Senator Payman has served as a senator for Western Australia since 2022, initially for Labor before becoming an independent and then launching her own political party, Australia's Voice, in October.

Earlier this month she erupted at Pauline Hanson in a vicious parliamentary spray, accusing the One Nation leader of racism and claiming she brings 'disgrace to the human race'.

Senator Payman was reacting to Senator Hanson's tabling of a document which said her Afghan citizenship disqualified her from serving in parliament.

Section 44c of the Australian constitution prevents anyone who holds citizenship of another country from sitting in parliament.

But Senator Payman says she has legal advice confirming she has can serve as a Senator because she has taken all steps to renounce her Afghan citizenship, and the Taliban-controlled state has not yet responded.
