EXCLUSIVE

Detectives investigated if the husband of TV host Erin Jayne Plummer was involved in her death after they were alerted that their marriage had been on the rocks, Daily Mail Australia can reveal.

Studio 10 star and mum-of-three Erin, 42, was tragically found dead at the base of the clifftops in Manly on Sydney's northern beaches after taking her own life in May 2022.

On Sunday, the body of her husband Alan Plummer, 49, was found at the foot of a cliff at nearby Freshwater Beach after he failed to meet a friend for a planned swim.

The double tragedy has left the couple's three daughters - aged 18, 15, and 11 -  orphaned.

Although Erin's death was ruled by detectives as non-suspicious, Daily Mail Australia can now reveal police investigated if Mr Plummer had played any role in his wife's death.

During the NSW State Coroner's investigation into the tragedy, police were told she confided to friends she was a victim of domestic violence and coercive control.

A close source told Daily Mail Australia that Erin was planning on separating from her husband, but her requests for him to leave their Freshwater home were ignored.

'She was going to therapy to leave him,' the source said.

'People saw her that morning [on the day she died]. She was going to go to a therapy session that day.'

The source, who is familiar with the investigation, told Daily Mail Australia detectives ruled early in the probe that her death was non-suspicious.

But her loved ones hoped the inquiry would delve into the other factors - including marital issues - that triggered her mental health decline which led to her death.

Daily Mail Australia understands the Coroner's matter in relation to Erin was finalised earlier this year.

The Coroner's office said on Wednesday it was unable to comment on the outcome due to 'the complexity of the matter and the report of Alan Plummer's death'.

A source familiar with the family's situation said she had disclosed to friends that her husband was controlling and that she was suffering mental abuse.

They said Mr Plummer had severe mental health issues and had made previous attempts to end his own life. Some instances had led to him spending time in psychiatric wards.

He was also grappling with long-term medical issues, including problems with his heart.

The source said Mr Plummer had distanced himself from his wife's friends and loved ones following her death.

Court records obtained by Daily Mail Australia also show Mr Plummer took his wife's family to the Supreme Court in February last year after she nominated them as her beneficiaries of her will.

The outcome of the court matter, which was finalised in January this year, remains confidential.

The alarm was raised on Mr Plummer's death by his friend  when he did not show up to a scheduled swim meet at 6.30am on Sunday morning.

He was found dead by a lifeguard an hour later.

The tragedy comes just two months after Mr Plummer sold the family's Freshwater home, which he bought with his wife 22 years ago, ahead of a scheduled auction.

The house was sold for an undisclosed sum after his eldest daughter revealed her plans to spend a gap year abroad following the completion of her HSC.

Mr Plummer was intending to relocate with his 11-year-old to Queensland to be closer to his middle child, who is studying there on a sports scholarship.

Erin was first thrust into the spotlight at a young age when she was scouted at Sydney's Manly Beach and cast in a tourism campaign that aired on NBC in America.

But it was her role as a TV presenter, hosting advertorials, for which she became best known.

During her career, she appeared on Studio 10, TVSN, Mornings with Kerri-Anne and The Morning Show - earning herself the nickname 'The Danoz Girl' as she spruiked everything from massage chairs and workout programs to slimming jeans and steam mops.

She also did countless voiceovers for TV and worked as a presenter for Aerobics Oz Style for six years.

The instructional aerobics TV series, which aired from 1982 to 2005, had a global audience of 40million people in more than 80 countries at its peak.

In addition to her TV career, Erin was an accomplished synchronised swimmer who represented Australia at three world championships and won 11 national titles.
