Aussie tradie praised for roadside speed camera sign: 'God's work'

An Aussie tradie who held a sign warning of an impending speed camera on the side of a highway has been hailed as a 'legend' by drivers in his area.

The man was pictured wearing a bright orange vest and holding a sign that read 'Beware camera' in Werribee, west Melbourne, over the weekend.

He earned the praise of dozens of drivers after a photo of him standing on the side of the Princess Highway near Sneydes Road was shared by Wyndham TV

'With a serious expression, he waves at passing cars, his silent gesture offering a heads-up to fellow motorists,' the photo was captioned.

'Whether seen as a helpful warning or a controversial act, his presence adds an interesting dynamic to the daily commute.'

Several people quickly identified the man as 'Darryl' and revealed it was not the first time he had brought out the homemade sign.

'He's actually a tradie in town.. sick of being fined just by doing 3km over,' one said.

'Absolutely bloody Aussie legend right there,' a second wrote.

'God's work,' a third agreed.

'He needs a beer or 10 on a mate,' wrote another admirer.

'We've all copped a ticket doing 3 or 4km over by some camouflaged car... GOOD ON HIM,' another said.

Some said the man's sign was more effective in stopping people from speeding than mobile speed cameras or fines.

'Honestly, he is just as helpful as the speed camera to slow people down,' one said.
